idk, it depends upon how disruptive he is. I have never been a fan of mainstreaming, I dont believe that defective people should get in the way of able people any more than defective cars should get in the way of the properly running cars on the highway. We have a min speed law for a good reason.

note: just today in front of me at the store was a mother and her mentally defective daughter. the plan was to let the daughter buy her own gum but once a major line started forming the mother had the decency to basically do it for her.....mother went into the pocketbook and got the money, all daughter had to do was hand it over. i appreciated not making the rest of us suffer because her kid has problems. I would expect any decent parent to do the same if their kid had behavior problems, it is just common courtesy, parents of mentally and physically handicapped kids have the same obligation.

no doubt you and I will never agree on this point.

who did this? my question runs more to "is this the right man for the job?" the people get to decide because the business runs on eyeballs. some people will watch once because they want to support the victim, but to get them back the show needs to be rewarding to the viewer. i have a strong suspicion that all parties want to make a pro victim political statement with this show, but they need the eyeballs to pay the bills.

@farmerman,

Michael J. Fox Is A Risky Comeback Bet For NBC

By Dorothy Pomerantz, Forbes Staff

I write about Hollywood and run the Celebrity 100 List.

Quote:
How bad are things at NBC right now? Bad enough that NBC’s head of entertainment Bob Greenblatt decided to skip the normal development process of commissioning a pilot episode before committing to an entire season of a show and ordered a full 22 episodes of a sitcom starring an actor who hasn’t led a TV show in a generation.

That actor, of course, is Michael J. Fox, who will be making his return to TV next season with a new show loosely based on his life as a father balancing work and Parkinson’s Disease. Although it’s very big bet, it’s not unheard of. But recently when shows have been picked up like this it’s because they have so much foreign presales money that the show is basically already paid for before production starts.

Make no mistake. This is a risky move. Fox is a beloved TV icon. There’s no question about that. And he consistently ranks high on our list of the Most Trusted Celebrities. And I’m rooting for the show which won’t shy away from Fox’s Parkinson’s.

But brave and admirable don’t always equal ratings and right now, NBC desperately needs ratings. The Olympics were a brief bit of sunlight for the network that is now sinking back into fourth-place doldrums. Greenblatt has said that he wants NBC to reassert its strength as a sitcom leader and many pundits have said that the new Fox show is an example of how Greenblatt is going to do that.

But Fox hasn’t starred on a TV show in 12 years. He’s been seen in the odd guest-starring role on shows like The Good Wife and Scrubs but what NBC is really banking on here is nostalgia, that the love we felt for Alex Keaton on Family Ties (which ended its run in 1989) will be strong enough to get us to embrace another Fox show.

Members of the coveted 18-25 demographic weren’t even born when Family Ties finished its run. So the audience for Fox’s new show is likely to skew older, something advertisers don’t love.

Director Will Gluck, who helmed Easy A and Friends With Benefits, is executive producing the show which means it has some hip credentials. Will it be enough? It’s hard to see how. And if the show flops, Greenblatt will have 22 episodes on his hands to burn through.

Of course at this point, NBC has nothing to lose. Good luck.

defective people

That term is definitely open to interpretation. For me (and I'm sure I'm not alone) it would include people who appear to totally lack empathy for other human beings. Have you considered that your lack of empathy could be caused by an undiagnosed mental illness or a disorder such as Aspergers Syndrome? You could get tested and/or seek some kind of support so that you can learn how to hide your defect and stop potentially making people around you uncomfortable. You are at least fortunate that they let you 'mainstream' on this site despite your faults. I dunno - maybe you have to stay home on the computer because your folks won't let you out disrupting us normal people who don't have an empathy defect. Seriously.

You nor I are qualified to determine that. It's up to the producers and Mr Fox's fans.

Your title is "Any Interest in Seeing MJ Fox and His Misfiring Brain on TV?"
A total insult.

@hawkeye10,
I don't discriminate who writes any post; I challenge those that are stupid, and compliment those that makes sense. You can fit both categories.

One more thing; MJ Fox has Parkinsons disease through no fault of his own, and he has created a foundation to research cures for that disease.

He's a good person, you're not.

@hawkeye10,
That article seems to be a very good assessment. Michael J Fox is a popular celebrity - people seem to want him to succeed - will he is the question...how far along is his parkinsons, I think will determine it. The one thing in the show's favor is they do tape so they can edit out.

Only time will tell - it is a big risk - but on the flip side, if it succeeds it could be huge.

As a side note - some of what was discussed here reminded me of an episode I saw of "What would you do" when a child who has autism was brought to a restaurant. From the examples they had here, it appears there is alot more people in support was having a child acting a "bit uncomfortable" rather than for the individual who feels these "defective" children should not be out in public.

Ah. I assume that means you're going to stop talking about your BDSM fetish, having sex with teens, that the definition of rape should be changed, and the rest of your creepy sexual issues.

Thank god; sanity at last.

editing out the effects of Parkinson would sort of defeat the purpose of the show

I do not happen to agree with any of the above but it is funny.............

Hawkeye seems to be in a bad mood lately for some reason he had yet to share with us.

@ehBeth,
I should have clarified - not completely editing out - but where it gets too much/severe (understand what I mean) - they could stop taping/edit - I'd imagine with the premise of the show it will be and needs to be shown, but if its gets too severe could be difficult to understand.

Staffing issues. I was telling someone just yesterday at the rate this is going I will be a Republican in a year. The work is not that hard and I pay fairly well and it is a fun place to work but finding americans who are able and willing to work is not as easy as this former liberal believed.
