@hilbert,

Of course, if I were a GOD…the way I would intelligently design life would probably be very much the way you people are supposing it happened accidentally through natural selection here on Earth. Ya know…the way it actually has happened.

Yup, that’s the way I would intelligently design life…if I were a GOD.

I’d want it to fine tune itself over a long time. And I would want it to be a curiosity and a mystery of sorts to the creatures being designed. Give ‘em something to ponder and investigate.

I certainly hope that if I were a GOD, I would intelligently design something that would eventually become something a hell of a lot more beautiful (in the scientific meaning of that word) than what is poking around now.

How would any of you folk intelligently design it?

@farmerman,
I'm talking from when I was a lab tech in immunology, early days. I got to start a lab for tests up to that time, ' 65. I was it. I was the one who moved refrigerators. Boss from prestigious place visited once in a while. I'm no post doc person (a woman, you know, back then). Still, I had the coffeepot going and was accepted by my quesions. Besides flirting, we talked. Later worked in research lab, and after that for a new clinical lab. Senior, but that wasn't how we worked at the start. See next paragraph.

I have not surety now about genetic markers re a batch of those, but I checked fast about autoimmunity. I left for green pastures (design thereof) in 1980 after working at a lab that grew to worldwide. Offered manager status very early in the company, but got out of there. I'm no born manager and the boss was problematic to others. I did not have the acumen to joust with him.

I'd be better financially off if I stayed, but insane (or more insane).

Small scale design such as that is certainly stupid, but an entire Universe that evolves living thinking beings merely as a natural expression of it's own physics... that's not so stupid any more.

@rosborne979,
Nature does have a flavour for saving energy but funny enough seams that efficiency has costs...or maybe God is just a penny pincher miser niggard skinflint scrooge...in which case we should all file a complaint...

@Fil Albuquerque,
No Fil, Nature is incredibly wasteful.

Think of how much of the sun's energy is just lost into space. If you directed the Sun's energy to just where it is needed, you could add trillions of years to its life.

@Fil Albuquerque,
Unless we could then store the electricity and use it as a weapon - imagine being able to zap anything that attacked you?

Hmmm...I think maybe I've played too many computer games in years gone past...

@vikorr,
Why did you stop playing ? I am sure even with less free time you can still play a couple of hours a week...games are good for the brain...

There are some animals that use electricity to stun their pray in the sea...

I've always thought that shoulders were particularly badly designed probably because mine give me such trouble. Of course, they're not meant for bipedalism. At what point will the hardware catch up to the software?
