Gautam--

Glad you're back on board--what with the pressures of the new job and all.

George--

The parade begins at sunrise tomorrow. Are you riding, walking or tottering from tippling?

Last actual Mardi Gras I attended, I had to be carried home. More sedate these days. I'll be marching with the Abp. Shaw H.S. Marching Eagles (pride of Marrero, LA).

Well George, this will be a virtual Mardi Gras, so you can indulge all you want!

Pssssssst...c'mere everybody, I've got something to show you. As I was finishing my costume fitting this afternoon down in the French Quarter, I stopped in at the float warehouse next door to take a quick peek at the new designs for tomorrow's parade. Gautam was there. He had them make up something special for him. Fortunately, I had my camera.

Of course, I am sure I can trust all of you to act surprised tomorrow. Right?

But what? He was just modeling it, Noddy. I'm sure he'll let you borrow it for tomorrow. Just ask him! I think it would look fab on you. "Noddy the Snow Queen." Yes, I can see that. Yes, indeed.

Finally masqued (i.e. in costume), George steps out onto the balcony of his Royal Street home and greets the crowd.

My glad rags this morning are green--green, green, green. I'm a veritable fertility goddess with vine leaves in my hair.

My flying carpet has to be tethered because of the winds. Four gallant grizzly bears have offered to march with the guy ropes. I've added a canopy to cope with the gently falling snow.

I have baskets and baskets of rose petals for the admiring crowd. Is everyone ready?

I am ready. My float is fired up in all it's icey/crystalline glory. I'm decked w/ masque and gaudy gown covered in teeny tiny icicle type of ornaments...

OK people, enough of this pretending.

Go here and you can watch a live webcam of the Parade (when it begins) uptown, or the goings-on on Bourbon Street (media player and broadband).

Just got this e-mail from someone on location:

Quote:
The Good Times are rolling in New Orleans despite the rainy weather. Beer being consumed and breakfast being cooked on grills as the morning light exposes last nights damage. Parade goers await today's free spectacular shows on St Charles and on Canal and in Metairie. The partiers are resting up from last nights decadence on Bourbon Street to give it one more shot tonight to expose body parts for beads before the Crew of Cops ends all the madness at Midnight and the weighing of the trash begins. Next year's Mardi Gras - February 8th, less than a year away.

I went on down to the Audobon Zoo and they all axed for you.

If I were there right now I'd be having breakfast as well: Bloody Mary in one hand, beignet in the other.

Feliz Martes Gordo.

Hmmm, can I have a mimosa with my beignet and save the bloody mary for later?
