After Watergate there was this explosion of glad handing and back patting - I know I know, it's hardly the only time that has gone on - folks exclaiming how well the American system had responded, another fine example of the American experiment showing its firmness, its uniqueness, its greatness.

Pure unadulterated twaddle.

War criminals to beat the band, top politicians lying to Congress, to the Justice Department and this time, the US is showing its maturity as a nation by going after a fat old sports star because, get this, he lied to Congress.

Surely, this is a joke. It's becoming clearer everyday just what the real joke is.

Do you think that they've spent as much money or more on this "prosecution" than they spent on the 9-11 Commission or on the NIST "investigation" of 9-11?

Potential Clemens jurors question cost of hearing

Opening day at Roger Clemens' new trial saw several prospective jurors question the purpose of a congressional hearing in which he is alleged to have lied, raising the issue as a possible challenge for prosecutors trying to convict the famed baseball pitcher.

...

Clemens, a seven-time Cy Young Award winner, was back in court Monday in the government's second attempt to prove that he misled a House committee at a landmark drugs-and-sports hearing in 2008. The first trial last July ended in a mistrial when prosecutors introduced inadmissible evidence after only two witnesses had been called.
