The most common allegation about the zoot suit was that young men who were not old enough at the end of the Second World War to go to war wore it to attract attention to themselves at a time when men in uniform got most of the attention of young women. It was also alleged that members of teen age gangs wore zoot suits. However, as the sumptuary laws of the middle ages showed, banning clothing styles is a waste of time.
That's roughly my mental picture. Notice the low hung pants and the extremely long coat.

There is no jurisdiction to ban it.
Its still a free country.

not sure about a zoot suit, but, I wish I had a pencil thin mustache, the "Boston Blackie" kind, a two toned Ricky Ricardo jacket and an autographed picture of Andy Devine
I dunno if I agree with the dissimilarity with the baggy pants. The zoot was cut with a very low crotch. Remember the Mexican actor called Continflas (or something like that)? He looked ready to trip over his britches when he wasn't cast for Around the World in 80 days.
