USS Constitution, SHE is the oldest ship in the United States Navy, OK? HMS Victory, SHE is the ship Nelson was sailing in at the battle of Trafalgar, when he was killed, OK?

Ships are female, get over it.

@maxdancona,
Yeah, well this ain'ta gonna change . . . get over it!

Walter understands. You remind me of the Greek who said he'd retire from the sea, put an oar on his shoulder, and walk inland until somebody asked himwhat the oar was, and then he'd settle there. You're that guy!

I suppose I shouldn't have actually posted that. Some things are best left in your head. I have a hard time with that.

@msolga,
But why are some countries men (as in "fatherland") while others are women (as in "motherland").
And how come they're all parents?
Are any countries children?

Vagely I remember there are three reasons why a ship is a She.
1. With a new man - owner in this case - it changes its name.
2. A ship needs the strong hand of a man to be steared.
3. I have forgotten the third reason.

The Vikings called their ships He because they called their ships dragons.
