What Did Jesus Say To the Jews?

The New Testament quote:"Ye are of your Father the Devil and the lusts of your Father ye will do...." is sometimes misinterpreted as Jesus condemnation of all Jews.The actual quote is from the Book of John:

Examination of the passage context reveals that Jesus was only speaking to a small group of Jews called the Pharisees.They were the ones who had been telling lies about Jesus to try and get him executed by the Romans.Jesus was a threat to them not only because of the new gospel that he was preaching, but also because he was interferring in the businesses that made the Pharisees wealthy.

Joe - what is your question?

The bible contains stories where Jesus got angry at the general citizenry and even exasperated with the people who followed him. They all were Jews. Jesus was a Jew!

@JoeBruno,
Hey-Zeus had a bit of a gripe with the Pharisees as was noted in Luke 11 for several verses.
In verse 37 the Pharisees graciously invite him to dinner, he then shreds them all to pieces

Quote:
..and as he spake, a certain Pharisee besought him to dine with him: and he went in, and sat down to meat.

Luk 11:38 And when the Pharisee saw [it], he marvelled that he had not first washed before dinner.

Luk 11:39 And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness.

Luk 11:40 [Ye] fools, did not he that made that which is without make that which is within also?

Luk 11:41 But rather give alms of such things as ye have; and, behold, all things are clean unto you.

Luk 11:42 But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

Luk 11:43 Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets.

Luk 11:44 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over [them] are not aware [of them].

Luk 11:45 Then answered one of the lawyers, and said unto him, Master, thus saying thou reproachest us also.

Luk 11:46 And he said, Woe unto you also, [ye] lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers.

Luk 11:47 Woe unto you! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and your fathers killed them

@JoeBruno,
Actually Hey-Zeus was often a bit arrogant.

Perhaps his intent was good; but, presentation sucked as he berated lawyers, pharisees and just about anyone else who didn't do everything the way he wanted, when he wanted. He lacked communication skills.

And now, a musical interlude

@djjd62,
There was no Christianity or Catholicism until 200 years after Jesus was gone.
Jesus never renounced Judaism or started a new religion.You are full of c...p.

@JoeBruno,
Gone? Where'd he go?

I seem to recall that the teachings said Jesus abides in each and every one of us.

@Sturgis,
Maybe in Christian teachings, but not all of us are Christians.

According to the 1997 census, only 33% of the Earth's population is Christian.

The other 2/3 don't buy it.

@JoeBruno,
He told them what was required if he existed and if he told them anything.

Part true, no doubt.

@JoeBruno,
I amend as matter of pondering.

He said 'Hi there' so often that it became comical, he eventually stopped... Was surrounded, raped and killed, the less you hear that, the more fun it is for the devils army to do it.

Though you will never see your mind alters over the years if under the wing of that force which pretends it never could happen to you.

Look at the wicker jesus's, they are all there is. Is what they require some to state if you wake up and see beyond your cornflakes, you pathetic species.
