Are your deciduous trees budding leaves yet?

On February 28th, it will be Butrflynet's birthday. When she was five years old in California, I planted a peach tree. We called it her birthday tree because it's pink blossoms plumed in the last days in February. We also planted a Purple Leaf Plum tree for my son's third birthday on February 6th. That's how my children knew their birthdays were near.

The new peach tree we planted for Butrflynet in Albuquerque last year won't bloom in time for her birthday this year because spring comes later in Albuquerque's high 5,000 altitude.

Have you ever planted special trees for your children or another loved one?

Have your deciduous trees budding any leaves yet? My four thornless honey locust in my front yard are budding today.

@BumbleBeeBoogie,
Some of the Navajo willows are getting a greenish tinge around the ends of the branches.

@BumbleBeeBoogie,
our woodlot is a mass of red tips on the maple branches. Weve had some new maple syrup for about 2 weeks now and the maple syrup isnt too great this year . It has a "swappy" taste because of the warmth.

My pussy willows are budding, the crocuses are blooming, snowdrops have passed bloom and the little bluets in the forest are going to bloom soon.

Ive got a new trick for peaches, prune and crotch them while they are blooming, that way youll see the spurs better and you can remove the always too many blooms and send the strength to the fruit you want to leave grow.

The trees don't object about you messing with them? Shocked Mad Evil or Very Mad Drunk

@BumbleBeeBoogie,
That's a Navajo willow all right, but if I had a tree that wouldn't be it. The darn things drop branches is even a moderately strong breeze. I don't mean kindling; I mean serious firewood.

They're also called Globe Willow.
