How to remove Rainsoft AM24 Brass valve?

I have an Rainsoft AM24 system that the coating on the brass valve coming off. (The valve itself is pitted.) Rainsoft/Aquaion HQ wants me to send them the valve for inspection/replacement. Any tips anyone has for getting the valve off without messing other things up would be much appreciated!

@QuickPuppy,
Bypass the unit, put it into backwash to bleed off pressure, disconnect water, drain and brine lines, spin the head off of the tank lifting gently being careful not to break the brine injector or bringing the riser pipe too far out of the tank.
