Too many buttons.

Over the years I've managed to acquire a large supply of buttons, mostly the very small ones, and I have been trying to think of what they could be used for, apart from simply handing them into the Op Shops. Even if I did that, I suspect they would not find a new home quickly. After all, apart from sewing them all onto a garment, like I saw once, in the UK, where they celebrated the Button King and Button Queen. The garments they wore were smothered in buttons. I can't see me doing anything like that. I'm keeping the larger ones because I have more use for them, but those very small ones that are around half an inch in diameter or under are the ones that I'd like to find something usefull to do with them. Any ideas?

I've got a friend who has made some awesome bracelets with giant safety pins, crystals and buttons. They are gorgeous and much envied.

@drillersmum,
A friend of mine (artist) did a sculpture with buttons, but I'll not describe it since of course it's her idea. I'll say it involved many buttons on a material that would weather well.

@ehBeth,
Safety pins, one of the best inventions of all time - saw similar by the etruscans in an etruscan museum.

On my friend's work, I'll see if she's got a website now with them posted, and post if so.

I've found my photos of my friend's work, and no website immediately. I'll email to ask if it's okay for me to post the photos (she's a designer). Gads, they're fabulous (not the photos but the work).

This is an ebay add for a guitar covered in button, looks like they are shellacked.
