@JGoldman10,
What about Chuffy, that's slang for arsehole, should fit in well with Poofy and the big jesse.

What about calling one of his black male characters "Welfare Mother" (We-Mo for short)?

I mean I could see if the character were female it might offend, but I'm talking about a black male character.

@izzythepush,
Poofy is not the same thing as PUFFY and I keep TELLING YOU FOR THE FRIGGIN' UMPTEENTH TIME, PUFFY IS NOT BLACK SLANG FOR HOMOSEXUAL.

Sean Combs called himself "Puffy" - he isn't gay. He is happily married with a wife and kids. Puffy meant someone cool.

He was also known as "Puff Daddy" which is another term for "Mack Daddy".

How many MORE times do I need to post this to you before it sinks in?:

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=puffy&page=2

Definitions 8 and 10:

8. puffy 17 up, 23 down
A person who's got large muscles, but isn't cut up. Thus, the person ends up lookin swollen all over. Not necessarily fat.

10. puffy 3 up, 10 down
can be used as noun, adjective, profanity or nickname.
noun=an extremely cool person.
adjective=amazing
profanity=synomyn of f***
nickname=a nickname for someone that demonstrates puff-like qualities (i.e: coolness, awesomeness, enthusiam)
"Woah! Look at that Puffy! She's so cool!"
"Holy crap! Thats puffin' awesome!"
"PUFF YOU"
"Oh jen, you're so cool, i think i'll call you Puffy from now on...cause you're just that cool."

And defintion 4:

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=puffy

4. Puffy 7 up, 9 down
Sean John Combs (born November 4, 1969), also known by his stage name "Diddy." Also formerly known as Puff Daddy and later, P. Diddy. He dropped the "P" from P. Diddy because it "got between him and his fans." Mr. Combs is a hip-hop mogul, producer, actor, and marathon runner.

@MontereyJack,
Coon wasn't going to be a "black" character - I simply asked would the name alone have the potential to offend others.

How is that any more offensive than calling a non-black character a black epithet, like coon?

No, wait.
I'm sure you'll have some nonsensical response.

Go for it.

Why is no one responding about "Cuffy"?

Cuffy is slang meaning:

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=cuffy

cuffy 17 up, 8 down
The illest nigga alive

But other dictionaries define cuffy as:

http://www.websters-online-dictionary.org/definitions/Cuffy

Noun 1. A name for a negro.[Websters].
Cuffy A negro; both a generic word and proper name.

If I use the name "Cuffy" are going to think of the racial term?

Cuffy was also the name of of the man who led the slave rebellion in Guyana:

@chai2,
Coon:

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=coon&page=6
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=coon&page=8

42. Coon 1 up, 8 down
A friend who never has anything or contributes to anything, but always wants whatever you have and desperatly wants. And usually lives in a appartment and is white (and likes famous T shirts)

51. coon 54 up, 64 down
not at all an offensive term for black people
it means a cool person
who is hip and ridiculously fly
and also is totally racially acceptable and also technologically savvy

Coon, according to some slang dictionaries, is also defined as "sly person, cunning fellow."

@JGoldman10,
How about Baby Daddy?

Puffy could be the pregnant momma.

Cuffy the ex-prizefighter grandpa.

@JGoldman10,
Puffy reminds me of powder puff.

It's not a very masculine name.

Does he retain water a lot? That can cause puffy eyes. It can really be a problem during "that time of the month".

@firefly,
Ever hear of Sean "Puffy" Combs?:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/48/Sean_Combs_2.jpg/220px-Sean_Combs_2.jpg

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_Combs

Sean John Combs (born November 4, 1969[1]), also known by his stage names Diddy and P. Diddy, is an American rapper, singer, record producer, actor, and entrepreneur. He has won three Grammy Awards and two MTV Video Music Awards, and his clothing line earned a Council of Fashion Designers of America award. He was originally known as Puff Daddy and then as P. Diddy (Puff and Puffy being often used as a nickname, but never as recording names). In August 2005, he changed his stage name to simply "Diddy", but continues to use the name P. Diddy in the UK as the result of a lawsuit. He formed and recorded with the group "Diddy – Dirty Money".
