Hi

I'm looking for a song I heard on radio. It sounded pretty modern, but I have no idea if it's a new release. I suspect not. Some lyrics are below.

Time goes by
...
To make it right I gotta break these chains
...
Tie me up with good intentions
...

Thanks for any help,
eremos

Hey Eremos; welcome to A2K.

Unfortunately, it has not become remotely famous enough for Google to list it, but I will keep my ear out for anything with those words.

What genre was this song? Rock; R&B; Pop?

Thanks for the welcome! Apologies for not introducing myself. Smile

It was more pop than anything else, but at least the beginning of the song had the vocalist singing in a rough kind of style that had me thinking of Cat Power.

I've sent an email to the SABC, who operates the station, and I'll post the gist of any reply here.

Thanks,
E

I know this song and it's on the tip of my toungue, but I just can't grasp it. I'll think on it and see if I can't remember.

Do you know if it's a male or female singer?

Darn! I thought it was a song by Sarah McLachlan, but I just listened to the 2 CD's I have of her and it doesn't look that way. It still sounds familiar though. This is gonna drive me nuts, lol.

Welcome to A2K by the way :-D

The Queen of Love
I have been listening to Meshell Ndegeocello for a long time and I must say that there is no one who can do a love song like Meshell. I could listen to her sing about love all day. Don't get me wrong, I also love to her sing/speak about racism, sexism, homophobia, religious hipocracy, sense of self, etc. Anyone can write a song, but Meshell has a way of taking a love song to a whole new level. She can make you feel whatever she is feeling. "Love Song #1" is magic. I can't get enough of that one. Words can't express the beauty and the power this song has...one of my all time favorites from her.
"Andromeda and the Milky Way" is amazing, along with "Good Intentions", and "Thankful". The whole album is fantastic.
This album represents what we all need more of in our lives...love, inner peace, understanding, and more love.

I'm afraid that's not the one I was looking for. This was a lot more mainstream.

Thanks!

? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Quote:
Break these chains around my heart.
Cut me loose and set me free.
I can't stand to live my life,
Bound to your memory.

The 'phone rings, it's three in the morning,
Who else could it be?
You're gone, but you try to keep it going.
That's the last thing I need.
Forever is over,
Now it's up to me.

To break these chains,
If I'm ever gonna love again.
(Break these chains.)
I'm gonna say goodbye and let it end.
(These chains.)
My heart is tellin' me,
If I'm gonna be free:
I gotta break these chains.

It's time to put away your picture,
Take your pillow from my bed.
I'm still bound to you, baby,
But with every step,
I'm gettin' stronger,
And I won't bend.

I gotta break these chains,
If I'm ever gonna love again.
(Break these chains.)
I gotta say goodbye and let it end.
(These chains.)
My heart is tellin' me,
If I'm gonna be free:
I gotta break these chains.

Change, everybody changes;
Gonna have to be the one to break these chains.
Change, everybody changes;
Gonna have to walk away and break these chains.

Instrumental break.

Forever is over,
Now it's up to me.

To break these chains,
If I'm ever gonna love again.
(Break these chains.)
I'm gonna say goodbye and let it end.
(These chains.)
My heart is tellin' me,
If I'm gonna be free:
I gotta break these chains.

Change, everybody changes;
Gonna have to be the one to break these chains.
Change, everybody changes;
Gonna have to walk away and break these chains.

It's quite a coincedence that both songs have "good intentions" and "break these chains" in the lyrics, but I listened to a sample of Meshell's and it's not the same song.

I haven't received a reply from the SABC. Hopefully tomorrow.

I'm away for 5 days from Wednesday, so hopefully I'll have an answer when I get back on Monday.

Thanks guys!

Okay I tried doing some 'net searches...tried with just a few key words and anticipating the possibility of a misheard line. I even listened to Cat Power whom I'd never heard of before!

So now after doing all this and coming up empty, eremos, did you get a response from the radio station? 'Cause this is making me nuts!!!!!!!!!!!! *L*

lol, I'm afraid not. Just got back yesterday and no reply. I've pretty much given up.

And I am so desperate for new music lately. Sad
