cryptic crossword

I've been trying for ages to get this one.

Baby type of shark and cod.(9)
pattern:
M - R - - - I N G

I know that a ling is a cod so the last for letters could be this, but I just can't get the rest. The words I've found, don't fit the clue.

Thanks laughoutlood,

I did that and one of the words I got was 'nurseling' which means a baby still being nursed, so it fits.
It also gives me the right answer where the 'm' was.
