A swim cap whose design looks like a brain.

That would look cool.

@chai2,
What's a swim cap good for, anyway. Does it keep your head dry? I would think that even if it didn't leak, sweat would build up till your head smelled like a sheep. Maybe they're worn because women have dirty heads. I've never seen a man wearing something like that.

@roger,
The pool I go to has a separate area for swimming laps. A lot of the men and women wear them.

I'm pretty sure they do it mostly to make themselves more streamlined.
I think also to keep their hair from flopping around, and into their eyes/mouth.

You have to wet your head before you put a swim cap on. Putting it on with dry hair hurts. You should wet your head with fresh water, not the chlorinated pool water. If your hair is saturated with fresh water, it won't as readily soak up the chlorine.

I used to do that, just to protect my hair, but now, I just bring a container of water, drench my hair, then put on some conditioner before I go in the pool. The conditioner creates another barrier.

Yes, I'm careful with my hair. I color it and anyway don't want it to get messed up w/ the chlorine.

@roger,
Um, keep hair out of the pool; keep your hair, which does get somewhat wet even with a cap sometimes, away from the pool chemicals, keep your long hair away from your face.. that's what I remember. I used to have an anti-pool chemical shampoo, whatever good it did.

Adds, we always had to shower before getting in the YMCA pool, so you could wet your hair there if you wanted (I never did, duh).

@chai2,
Remember those swim caps women wore in the 50's? The ones with the flowers all over them? I mean, 3-D flowers! Chahming!

@ossobuco,
Sounds like the kind of thing you might wear to the local 7/11 - with a gun.

@ossobuco,
You sure? I thought that was the Turkish dessert made with honey poured in between layers of some kind of other stuff.

Why just swim caps, how about stocking caps. The yarn could be made to look pretty realistic, I'm sure. Could even be a new brand "Over Armor BrainCap"

@wayne,
There is a surprising range of brain hat knitting patterns out there.

(how do I know? my bf and I have been discussing making a set of ém - she recently completed a Dalek hat for her daughter)

@roger,
You're thinking of baklava..
It would take a lot of baklava to cover your head, plus it would be pretty sticky.

I'm not surprised to find that out. I bet it's not an easy pattern to do.

@ossobuco,
I still have my knitting books (love 'em) and needles and bunch of good yarn.. not that I want to replicate that balaclava.
