That you don't show up to a birthday party being held at a restaurant an hour before the stated part time?

The place we are going to in Fort Worth is 3 and a half hours away from Austin.
The party for an 80 year old woman is starting a 2pm.

It is now 9:17, and Wally just left the house to drive off his arrival time anxiety, after I told him "we are not leaving the house before 10:30 No one wants us there before 2pm. In fact it would be really great if we arrived 15 or so minutes later."

I figure we've got a good 20 minutes worth of conversation with the birthday girl before we start wishing for 5pm to hurry up so we can drive home.

Ah, he's back.

9:29.

He's just announced he's going back out to get gas and lotto tickets.

@chai2,
I must be related to Wally. My mother was a similar type, she arrived everywhere at least an hour early.

Leaving early to counteract any traffiic troubles whch may arise isn't a big deal, there can be many delay factors in that great a dstance (three and a half hr. drive) especially with weekend traffic. Just enjoy the drive there, arrive in the area early, visit a park, visit a museum, visit a few stores (you can just browse), must be plenty of thngs to eat up an hour or two time of.

The traffic could be bad. You could get a flat tyre. Police may cordon off the end of your street due to a murder.

Feelin you pain Wal ol son. anything could happen.

Plus the sooner you get there the sooner you'll be able to leave

Yeah, but what Wally would want to do would involve getting a hotel room.

We're taking Wally's new Mustang, if there's a police cordone, we'll just use a speed bump as a ramp and sail over the whole mess.

@chai2,
I'm kinda with Wally.

Given the distance involved in the trip, I'd probably give myself at least an extra hour and then go for a cup of tea if I did arrive early - or do a tiny bit of touring.

I really really really hate being late for anything. I'd rather arrive in the general area early and then kill a bit of time.

When I'm ready to leave, everyone else better be ready - or I leave without them. Really.

We just got back home.

We left at 10:30, arrived at 1:50, ten minutes early.

10 minutes too much of browsing in a store.

This was not a doctors appt.
It was a B-day party for Wally's 80 year old sister.

Didn't matter if we got there at 2, or 2:30 or 3. Other guests arrived at all those times, just as they do at any party.

I was optimistic at the 20 minutes of conversation, more like 10.

At 2:45 I caught Wally looking at his watch, I could see the time upside down and thought "Oh crap, we've only been here 45 minutes?!"

On the plus side, this SIL looks and acts more like 65, not 80. She'll live to be 100, easy.

We left at 4:30 and pulled in the driveway at exactly 8pm

@chai2,
Who knows, you might.

My time machine prototype is coming along nicely.

Well, maybe "nicely" is not the word. I regret that incident with my assistant.

At least Chai was gracious to my sister.

Is this the sister that ratted on you for the time you broke the window? and sold you out to her friends when she caught you dancing naked in your room?

At least?

Damn, you know I like her, who went out and bought the gift? Did you notice how darling she looked because her lipstick and nail polish matched?

You were the one looking at your watch, and decided we should go.

At least you let me drive the Mustang home. That was cool.
