This sure grabs me... and I don't know why

"I'm sleepin' with myself tonight...
sick and tired,
Thank God my music's still alive"

When I listen to this song, I get stuck in some kind of never ending epiphany... and when the song is over, I'm sitting there, completely and totally alone, just in awe of the power of expression contained in humanity...

Hey, harmonic. I can really identify with the words to that song although I am not familiar with it. Someone once told me that I took a bath in music rather than listen to it with a critical ear. Often, listening is best done alone without a feeling of loneliness.

Great song. That song always hit home with me as well. It's amazing how powerful music can be.

Letty
I believe that's an Elton John song.

Thanks, Montana. I truly like Elton John. He wrote one about a school teacher, but I can't remember the title. My students used to say that was my song. Smile The lyrics had something in it about a middle aged queen who was tall and lean. He he! I'll find it.

Letty, I think the song you are referring to is, "Teacher I need You"

harmonic , you have me singing that song in my head...butterflies are free to fly, fly away...

Indeed it is, colorbook. Thanks to Mikey, I just found the lyrics.

Teacher I Need You
I was sitting in the classroom
Trying to look intelligent
In case the teacher looked at me
She was long and she was lean
She's a middle-aged dream
And that lady means the whole world to me

It's a natural achievement
Conquering my homework
With her image pounding in my brain
She's an inspiration
For my graduation
And she helps to keep the classroom sane

Oh teacher I need you like a little child
You got something in you to drive a schoolboy wild
You give me education in the lovesick blues
Help me get straight come out and say
Teacher I, teacher I, teacher I, Teacher I need you

I have to write a letter
Tell about my feelings
Just to let her know the scene
Focus my attention
On some further education
In connection with the birdies and the bees

So I'm sitting in the classroom
I'm looking like a zombie
I'm waiting for the bell to ring
I've got John Wayne stances
I've got Erroll Flynn advances
And it doesn't mean a doggoned thing.

harmonic, sorry. Didn't mean to divert your flow.

Don't worry 'bout it. Sometimes the flow is meant to be diverted...

Yeah, that's an Elton John tune, "Someone Saved My Life Tonight"

Bathing in music is a good description, and so is the idea of being alone without being lonely. Both are pretty acurate of my relationship with music as a whole.

Somethin' funny, I'm really not that big an "Elton John fan". My favorite music overall is metal; Slayer in particular, because the intensity of feeling that I appreciate so much lies in the progression of the electric guitar rhythms. My musical taste has expanded over the years moreso than changed, because the emotions driven in heavy metal are still part of my life. I feel very lucky in this. How does a Slayer fan discover Elton John? It was through Tommy! Smile It wasn't hard at all for me to get into The Who, once I heard their live albums - (awesome!) Elton John has had quite an impact on me, I can't explain why very well... He has this very subtle trick, this thing that really puts you in his shoes. He is an extraordinary artist.

harmonic, There is no explanation for music. There never has been. It evolves and yet stays the same. When I sang, I knew that I was doing what was right when I turned myself on.

I've always been somewhat of an Elton John fan and I agree.
