ehBeth, sadly, there was no other protein on the menu. I need my protein. Had I skipped the lamb, my dinner would have been salad, potato latkes, mashed sweet potatoes and some asparagus. That just don't cut it for me. Even a vegetarian wouldn't get enough nutrition out of that.

I went to Costco and found a standing rib roast mismarked as just a regular rib roast, so I got a 4 rib piece for only $46. I cut in in half and got two three and a half pound roasts.

One is going in the oven on Christmas day. So, beef, yorkshire pudding, and other good stuff.

From Sandra Boynton's "Christmastime":

Some etymologists believe that the word "wassail" comes from the Middle English "was" (BE) and "hail" (HALE. i.e in good health). But anyone who has ever been wassailed knows that "wassail"
is simply an inebriated contraction of "What's in this ale?" This is what's in it:

Core, halve and roast:
120 medium apples

Beat with a wire wisk:
240 eggs

When you have recovered, pour the eggs into a largish pewter kettle. Add:
125 gallons ale

Add the apples, and bring to a boil over medium flame. Add:
1 1/2 gallons molasses
2 pounds raw sugar
2640 blanched almonds
1 cup grated nutmeg
1 1/2 pounds ground cinnamon
1/2 pound ground ginger
1/3 bushel whole cloves

Let simmer 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
Serve hot. And often.

Oh, BURRRRRRRRP! Shocked

To counter the horrors of holiday eating I'm now pretending it's just any ol' time .... How long will this denial last, I wonder? Rolling Eyes
The other good thing: I've taken to walking with a friend each morning. She needs to lose weight, I need to get fit. 10 km this morning. How's that? Very Happy

I ate half a kilo of prawns by myself tonight. My own personal Christmas celebration. Two and a half hours later and I'm still OK, so I think I got away with it.

False alarm! I thought all the gluttony had finisihed, but last night a friend delivered some of her left over bounty from Christmas lunch .... Lots of turkey, home made Florentines, mince pies & short bread. She's an excellent cook, the food looked amazingly enticing, so what else could I do? Very Happy Burrrrrrrp! Rolling Eyes
