You prolly still need plenty of sleep with that cold, but don't dream you're running from something that's trying to get you, it defeats the purpose.

Damn, I can't sleep. This doesn't bode well for tonight. I have that tickle in my throat that won't let me doze off.

They're going to have to get use to you being gone since you'll be elected president. Think they'll make it without you?

rumballs could help with the doze factor, if nothing else

Very Happy

usually the alka-seltzer plus does it. Unless the itchy tickle throat thing kicks back in. Adding rumballz to the mix might be dangerous. But it might be fun too.

Are those rumballs the cookies that could survive the transit of being sent to soldiers in the Pacific, c. WWII? I used to have that recipe; they'd keep practically forever because of the rum.

I dunno, piffka. I keep mine in the fridge. There's nothing in them that would really rot. It's wafers, sugar, cocoa, rum, and tia maria.

Oh. That's different. Wafers? Here's the recipe I was thinking of... I cut this out of a paper in Minneapolis about 30 years ago:

"Rum Dums Went to War"
"Louise Pickering of Minnetonka created a rum-soaked raisin & nut cookie recipe for mailing to servicemen in the warm climates of the Pacific islands...." (The rum helped preserve the cookies.)

2 c. scalded raisins
2 c. chopped walnuts
1 1/4 c. white rum
2 c. butter
2 c. brown sugar
2 c. white sugar
4 eggs
1 T. vanilla
5 c. flour
1 T. baking powder
1 t. salt
4 t. cinnamon
1 t. nutmeg
1 t. cloves
3/4 t. baking soda
1 c. double strength coffee, cooled
1 c. powdered sugar
3/4 c. flour

scald raisins by pouring boiling water over & letting set 5 min. then drain. Pour 3/4 c. rum over raisin and the rest of the rum over the walnuts in a different bowl. Let soak 12 hours.

Cream butter with sugars, add eggs, then vanilla.
Stir baking soda into coffee.
Mix flour with soda, salt & spices, then add, alternately coffee mix & flour mix to the creamed sugars.
Stir in the raisins, nuts & rum.
Cover bowl & refrigerate several hours (can be refrigerated up to one week).
To bake, shape rounded teaspoonful of dough into a ball and roll in a mixture of powdered sugar & the flour. Place 2" apart on welll-greased baking sheet, 350F, for 10-12 minutes. Very Happy

Store in air-tight container with wax paper between.
Makes 10-12 dozen.

They're good, but a lot of work! I think we used dark rum. Mr.P still asks if I'll make these again.

I fixed it... 10-12 minutes. They'll get you a little drunk if you eat too many. I like to stew dried fruit in rum. It'll give a subtle kick to that Holiday breakfast.

BrandX - coffee. No rumballs yet today.

When it rains it pours. The renovators upstairs put a nail through a hotwater pipe. Yep. Spent the day replacing catch buckets under the leaks. The water has stopped, but boy is there a mess. One guy from upstairs is mopping my floor. I have a hard time letting him do it so I left the room and came in here to busy myself. They'll paint the ceiling too!
