One day every living creature can talk. The worm agonizingly being pulled up into sunlight by a robin, who is happy to have breakfast; a cat who wonders aloud why he can't get on the bed when the woman with the red fur on her head can get on the bed with the master when the mistress is away.... This is driving me crazy. What is it?

It's a science-fiction short story, part of an anthology I read years ago. I've been luck in relocating some short stories, but not this one.
