I have a feeling the same image was used by different names in many different countries, as it was property of the conglomerate that distributed the product.
It's the same company - only an other brand's name. (And fish fingers are called
Fischstäbchen ["small fish batons" (bacillum piscis
)]here.)
FISCHSTAEBCHEN : some years ago we were in germany for our 45th anniversary class reunion. the reuninon took place in the schulheim(school camp) in puan klent on the island of sylt(of the german coast). we were there (with our wifes) for a whole week and thoroughly enjoyed the get-to-gether. the food was really excellent and the fresh sea breeze helped our appetites. one day the cook had prepared a lunch of fresh fish(haddock, i think). we oldtimers were really looking forward to the meal. we all had our meals together with the schoolkids in a large dining room. when the fresh fish was brought out from the kitchen, the kids started banging their spoons on the table and began shouting : "wir wollen fischstaebchen, wir wollen ...repeat, repeat, repeat ". (we want fishfingers ... ). they were not at all impressed with being served UNPROCESSED fish ! the cook told us later that he was not willing to give in and once a week fresh fish would be served (of course we could have double portions!). the kids went out later to buy icecream and make up for the lost lunch. hbg
Arr, there's plenty of the Cap'n to go around, me little hearties!!!!
Thanks to Adrian, heres cavs sea shanty thread. It, like many of his, by design I think, went all around the barn. That thread helped get me through a particularly trying time .
farmerman : THANKS ! that thread brought back a lot of good memeories. cav is probably singing a seashanty. hbg

Can I point out the irony of someone called 'Hamburger' wishing for the good old days of each fish-fingers*?
Also for the record. The fish finger was 'invented' in the 1960s to cope with the huge amounts of cheap cod being hauled out of the North Sea. That old Captain (Schipper) saw more of his cabin-boy's rump than he did fish-fingers........
OK, OK - Hamburg IS connected to the goddam sea! My mother grew up there - though originally from Bremerhafn ('The harbour of Bremen') - when I went to see my grandmother on a trip my cousin took her smoked eels!
