On second thought, a wee purge might be in order...

@boomerang,
I think recycling books to schools and libraries is such a sexy send out to the universe. Keeping about 100 will allow you to constantly have a lovely shifting sea of beautiful books. A very continental love affair.

I used to have a few hundred and wanted to hold on like they were old lovers. When my husband died, and I had to get rid of everything I owned, the books were harder to part with than beloved armoires and ancient loved doo-dads. I think it changes you for the better to face these things and let them go. It can make you invincible. Of course, you have to police that - or you can get sucked back down.

@Lash,
I didn't have to make up my mind, there was a fire. Books, gone. During a move I gave boxes of books to my favorite charity without checking to see what they were. Now, I send each one I read to someone in family, or a friend.

Never missed any of them, except those lost in fire. I had been collecting those since about 19 yrs. old.

@boomerang,
I have done several major book purges here in the last 11 years but still the place is overwhelmed.

I just love them.

Kindle etc. will be my saviour. I can now let go anything I can store electronically instead...though I do miss my lovely classics and the feel of them.

Also I DO re-read books I really love or I keep them for reference Some I would have re-read many times.

Another purge is on the way....I have to have storage space and I want less clutter. WAY less clutter.
