I can't believe I'm asking such an un-PC question but I really am curious. Please forgive me. I'm not intending to offend anyone.
I'm not Jewish, and I'm not gay, but I might could be gay if the Rabbi's wife was part of the deal.
Now I admit that I've only met 4 Rabbis up close and personal but without variation they've had beautiful wives, not just beautiful.... WAY beautiful, drop dead beautiful.
Maybe it's my limited experience that leads me to this conclusion and I really feel horrid and stupid for asking but are Rabbis like the rock stars of the religion set or what.
I'm sorry.
But thanks!
I 'm not Jewish n I dunno,
but reaching that level of recognition requires some level of scholarly achievement,
presumably resulting from a decent memory and abstract reasoning ability,
plus exposure to 1000s of years of Jewish wisdom;
i.e., it might serve as a de facto filtering device, to weed out lower intellects,
who r perhaps less likely to be good providers.
I 'm just speculating, here; just shooting in the dark.
David
Being the wife of a "man of the cloth" is akin to being the wife of a politician. Such a woman is the center of attention within the community and has to be polished, well-spoken by the standards of the community (certainly, the wife of a fundamentalist preacher in an isolated rural community raises different expectations than the wife of the rabbi for the largest congregation in NY) and always well-groomed.
When I was in college, one of our assemblies was on ecumenical matters of some sort. The college chaplain (I don't remember his name but he was called Father K), a rabbi and a Protestant minister formed a panel. The rabbi and the minister were accompanied by their wives, who sat in the audience looking like women from the pages of Vogue.
The minister and the rabbi were also well-groomed and neatly dressed while Father K looked like a refugee from a rummage sale. His suit was badly tailored and ill-fitting and his socks sagged. In fact, Father K's socks are what I carry away forty years later.
As we filed out of the auditorium -- we were in full academic dress, mortarboard, gown and black heels -- someone said, "Father K needs a wife."
Both of those answers make a lot of sense. Thanks David and Plainoldme.
i have a thing for an aquiline nose, so i think many jewish women are beautiful
@djjd62,
SILLY RABBI, CHICKS ARE FOR KIDS
Are you talking Orthodox? Marriages are still arranged in many sects. A rabbi is considered a good catch because a woman's destiny in the afterlife is tied to her husband's godliness. I assume eternal life is a big motivator to marry the guy. She can basically ride his coattails to heaven. It's a bit more complicated than that, but that's my quick explanation.
