A documentary indicates that this renowned scientist inadvertently infected millions of Africans with the AIDS virus when he injected them for polio using chimpanzee as a resource.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hilary_Koprowski
There was an inquiry by the Royal Society but because of the legal ramifications and liability they could have been pressured to defuse the matter. They got a sample from Koprowski that had no HIV or AIDS virus and tested the sample and brushed off the claim that his polio vaccine was contaminated by the virus. Koprowski denied he used chimpanzees but the documentary shows footage of chimpanzees in cages and being injected for kidney extraction. It shows that just as wars should not be left up to generals scientific inquiries shouldn't be left only to scientists.
There have been other scientific scandals such as eugenics under Sir Francis Galton which indirectly lead to Nazi philosophy, thalinomide birth defects and the killer bees introduced to the Americas.
Even the church can't be trusted as they conducted the Inquisition.
@djjd62,
No cigar sound similar but spellink is differant!
I have been thinking over it and realized that the documentary presents circumstantial evidence. A vaccine is afterall a weakened virus that is injected, vaccinated or swallowed by humans as it was in Koprowski's case with polio vaccine being delivered to be swallowed in Africa. Would not the contaminant HIV or AIDS virus also be weakened and also in combination with the polio vaccine how would that affect the contaminant? There was no polio vaccine left over from the African polio vaccination program so there was no smoking gun evidence that the polio vaccine by Poprowski actually brought on the AIDS epidemic in Central Africa. This vaccination occured in 1957-60 and the AIDS epidemic was detected in 1980. Question is how did it affect the kids who were given the contaminated polio vaccine? How long did they live? Did their parents also get the virus? How did the AIDS originate if not thru the polio vaccine and how did it spread? In 1980 those kids would be close to 30-40 year range. How long could a person live with the AIDS virus? Could the kids live that long to spread it? Lots of questions.
@djjd62,
I thought she was on "Welcome Back Kotter"
