Anyone here studies the Talmud? Is there anything remotely similar to the talmud in other religion?

@TuringEquivalent,
Well, the written standards of the United Society in the Belief of Christs Second Coming, were sort of Talmudic in that they were the "fences" of the Shaker Law as transcribed from Sister Anne.

They had their austere rules of being "with" the world but "separate" of it and how that was to be accomplished.

Too bad that theres not much remaining in their depleted society besides about 9 remaining SHakers, a whole series of artifacts and buildings, and some tracts of their law. Hardly anyone left to discuss their disciplines.

The AMish have their "ordnung" which , unlike the Talmud, are regional in applications. Both of these religious societies were (and are)invested in an approach which, like the TAlmud, would argue WHY a rule is to be followed.
