I've been getting into what I think of as Roots Music these days. Just lately it's Roy Acuff, the King of Hillbilly Music. His best songs, 1936-1949. "Great Speckled Bird" and all that...
Lately, i've been listening to Aretha Franklin while in the jeep (i usually leave the same tape in the player for a while). I have really enjoyed her cover versions of You Send Me, The Tracks of my Tears, and espeically of the tune by The Band, The Weight. I've always been a lover of female vocalists, and i especially appreciate it when they step out of a genre to try different things.
It doesn't get much better than Roy Acuff and Aretha Franklin. Lately I've been into Nancy Griffith and the Cowboy Junkies.
