Used to listen to this album a hell of a lot when I was a kid. Still nobody quite like Jimi.
Stevie Ray came as close as anybody.
He did, and I was listening to some of his early Double Trouble stuff earlier. SRV peaked, though. Jimi died while he was still getting better and trying new ****.
Aw, well, Doug Stanhope's probably right in his stand-up. "Who's to say that if Jimi Hendrix hadn't died, he wouldn't be playing 'Rocket Man' with Elton John at the super bowl half-time show."
Incidentally, the best recommender I've got from my entire professional education is a woman I spent about an hour debating the merits of SRV vs. Jimi with one afternoon. Never underestimate the power of common grounds with old hippies. A lot of the people in charge of **** these days are old hippies.
I'm at the bit right now where there's the wind-down from the long Voodoo Chile jam where it's studio background noise for a solid half-minute. Was the end of the second side of the double-LP album way back when, but digital music has made the whole "side" and "doubesided" side of things irrelevant. I kind of miss checking out an LP based on the first and second and last tracks of the 1st side and the 1st and last tracks of the second side to see if it was something you wanted to listen to or not...
But it's also got the merman **** on it.
But the **** after the merman **** ain't bad at all...
