@McGentrix,
This is a good list because not all those on it are scientists. I've been thinking of the geniuses in other fields. Thanks.

I like how that list includes artists and musicians and what-not.

I don't like how it includes rupert murdock.

@CarbonSystem,
I wouldn't call him a genius because he is a rather crass person with low standards . . . but . . . in business terms he succeeded beyond expectations.

What about people who are so obviously intelligent who leave you in awe? For example, while I would be hesitant to label Craig Ferguson a genius, there are times when he impresses me with his wit and knowledge. And, yes, there are times when he is unbearably sophomoric.

Another thing to consider is that amount of human knowledge is so much more extensive today than it was during Shakespeare's time or even during Mozart's time, that it just might be more difficult to be a genius now.

i'd think that any true genius would be smart enough not to get themselves noticed as being a genius, thereby being ale to lead a normal life

i mean that's what i did

The amount of knowledge in the average person stays the same, we have only changed what they need to know.

The early days of science were not easier to be a genius, it was simply easier to be a solitary genius. Now large Hadron Colliders are required in science, or expensive labs where many experiments can take place at once. Any attempt to expand our knowledge with a philsophical breakthrough are hindered by sneering academics with tall poppy syndrome.

@Ionus,
Several years ago, I read an article that suggested the amount of human knowledge first doubled in 1750 but doubled again in 1900 and then again in 1950. I thought that was horseshit. How can anyone say when the aggregate human knowledge doubled? But, the point that human knowledge is always increasing is true.

I might suggest that for some average people, the amount of knowledge hasn't increased despite our increased ability to access that knowledge.
