America's treasure: Is all the gold in Fort Knox really safe?

I think it might be an intelligent move if Americans would work together more, be less partisan. We owe mucho money to other countries, like China. If and when U.S. doesn't make payments on those loans to China because of high interest rates, can't China just step in and foreclose?

@Pemerson,
I don't think their loans have been collateralized.

No, it is not safe! Ever hear of Auric Goldfinger and Operation Grand Slam? If James Bond had not appealed to Pussy Galore's maternal instinct the ole' US of A would have been screwed back in the '60's... just like Pussy.

Nope, didn't see the movie back then - but, Pussy Galore would be enough collateral, you think?

@roger,
Exactly right. And we can always inflate away the debt - the Chinese know this.

Besides, all the gold in Fort Knox is only worth about $500 billion at current prices,while the federal debt in issued bonds / notes / T-bills is almost $13 trillion, and the actuarial deficits of Medicare / Medicaid are about $50 trillion - a drop in the ocean, relatively speaking.

@Pemerson,
Don't quite know.

I can't figure out if one can get more gold for Pussy or more Pussy for gold.

@High Seas,
We are walking a financial tightrope, aren't we? But, look what else is happening since America put cash in the hands of people in countries like India and China through out-sourcing. America also helped bail out Greece. We are communicating and that could be attributable to business - big business.

Isn't something good going on here on this planet, something progressive?
Big-business must be profitable in order to sustain the economy and provide employment (and benefits of all kinds). Why not look at similarities instead of this constant bickering about differences?

For some, all the gold in the world wouldn't be enough.

Oh, I see. You are saying that America is worthless? (lol) But, if we should all stay in our current houses, we'll never know they are worth less, much less. Laughing Laughing

@Pemerson,
And as long as we stay in them, we'll never find out, will we.
