Freddy Martin and His Orchestra - Tonight We Love
This song was based on the first movement of Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1, second movement. It was a big hit for Freddy Martin in 1941.
Huh, I never heard this version before. I immediately started to tear when I clicked on the youtube video. Not because of this version, so much (ick! is my first reaction), but because one of my first albums to buy - I must have been eighteen - was of a broadcast in 1943 with Horowitz/Toscanini and the NBC symphony orchestra doing the Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1 at Carnegie Hall. I was crazy about it. I told a medical student that I was collecting med records data for about my new purchase, and he scorned it with the words, parlor music. I continued to love it, the record is probably pretty worn - though I now haven't played the album for decades.
