@Region Philbis,
I love how it looks like he's looking thoughtfully into the future like one of those early 20th century political recruitment posters.
@tsarstepan,
Probably looking lovingly at a Fenway Frank but hey, what goes on on the other side of the camera, well, we don't need to know about that.
That feature needs a pic of Joe (Red Sox) Nation wearing his BoSox cap
at Yankee Stadium.
Had a nice time at Salem (Virginia) Red Sox 'FanFest' today with my nephew Ben.
We took a stadium tour, including the skyboxes, broadcast booth, lockerroom, dugout etc. and we got to meet their play-by play broadcaster Evan Lepler, new manager Bruce Crabbe, shortstop Derrik Gibson, and pitcher Pete Ruiz.
Ben got a Salem Sox cap and had it autographed (underside of brim) by
Derrik Gibson, and Pete Ruiz.
This may be one of the far outposts of Red Sox Nation, but RS Nation it is!
Ben, who has been ill, is joining the Salem Red Sox 'kids club'. He gets a hat, a tee-shirt, an autograph-signing event at a future date, and admission to ALL SEVENTY HOME GAMES! How does that sound for... are you ready?...twenty bucks!
@George,
I guess the concept is: "if we let the kids in essentially for free, the parents will come with them and BUY STUFF." :-)
it's still a great deal though.
I wish you guys would stop raiding the Florida teams. Lowell, Beckett. Now Crawford. Find your own players. Don't you have a farm system?
Jesus. You're like the new Yankees.
@panzade,
There SHOULD BE a more equitable payroll system to level the playing field. That was the position asserted by none other than Red Sox owner, John Henry several years ago.
Of course he can't implement it unilaterally. It would have to be agreed upon by all of the owners, or whatever majority they require to make major changes.
Of course there are teams like the Marlins and the Pirates whose ownerships are currently notorious for taking their 'Revenue sharing' $$ and putting them into their pocket instead of into payroll or player development.
@panzade,
Quote:[The Red Sox're] like the new Yankees.
It's funny because I wish it was true.
@jjorge,

Yes, but the pressure to buy a team like the Yankees do finally swayed him. I don't blame him. The fans demanded it.
The Marlins are a remarkable team in that in their short history they've won 2 titles. They have a chance at a good year if Stanton drives in some runs.
edit,
What I meant is that the Sox payroll is getting up there.

it is puzzling and disturbing that the team's success hasn't generated the revenue necessary to retain their stars...
@Region Philbis,
same thing with Tampa Bay.
I know many blame it on the stadium -it's old and unappealing, it's not in a good location etc.- but as a fan, I still find it incomprehensible.
The Rays have fielded such terrific teams in recent years!
@jjorge,
very true. I read today that Crawford's got a little case of stage fright.
@panzade,
tito dropped him from 3rd to 7th in the batting order yesterday, which seemed to either calm him down or light a fire under his ass...
Not much chatter comin' outta the Luxury Box. C'mon guys! Just cause this is the worst opening day swoon since 1945 doesn't mean it's over!!
@panzade,
What are ya talkin about - the Red Sox have a perfect record!
The winning streak begins today!
@George,
you're not really from Boston are you...
