@Region Philbis,
Loss was bad for Sox fans but good for baseball fans who want to see 7 games.

@tsarstepan,
I think the Breslow error was far worse then the Buckner error in 1986. Even if the Red Sox end up winning the series (fingers' crossed), Buckner had to deal with the ball hit straight to him while he was playing injured. Breslow SHOULDN'T have tried making that throw in the first place. He was never going to get the out at third base.

@panzade,
I gather that there is consensus, even from most Bosox fans, that the umpires made the right call.
Bizarre ending, no doubt, but the umps got it correct.
Meanwhile, the NFL is reeling. St Louis is almost giving away tickets to the game on Monday night vs Seattle. And the Cincy @ Miami game on Thursday, already a yawner, could face off against a possible game 7 in the series.

@realjohnboy,
To say the least that was a very bad time to make such a judgment call. I think that an intent to obstruct should have played some part of making a better decision. I saw nothing to show there was intent to obstruct.

Umm .... the Umpire Joyce, IMHO, showed poor discretion. Am I objective? Hell no! And, Jim Joyce can go straight to hell! Obstruct THIS!

With Miami's home field advantage and a spiffy defense I think this will be a good, competitive game...though if a tree falls in the forest....

Go Sox!

@Region Philbis,
Lackey was outstanding - sigh, when he was on my team, no - but I'm glad to hear this now.

Also, last evening I was reading somewhere about how fantastic Koji Uehara has been for so long. <looks> aha, it was in the New Yorker, a Roger Angell column:

@ossobuco,
Unfortunately Koji's luck ran out in the 9th when

Allen Craig doubled into left field off Koji Uehara to put runners at second and third with one out. The Red Sox pulled the infield in, and all hell broke loose on the next play.

why the eff didn't we intentionally walk the next batter?
salty might've made a better throw if all he hadda do was step on home...

incidentally, craig never touched home -- i guess that only matters on all other scoring plays?

@Region Philbis,
To me nothing is better than watching the Red sox victory with my new lady who is also a Red Sox fan and a knowledgeable one at that. I forgive her for being from NJ as she went to the light.

Sometimes it's a lot of fun being a Red Soxer. I sure got a long history with these guys (1967 - now). Riding the wave means experiencing through the trough as well as the crests!

It was a strange move putting Lackey in for the 8th, but now Tazawa will be rested for tomorrow. Koji should be alright to give them an inning as well, after light work last night and tonight. As for Breslow ... it's probably too late in the season to send him to Pawtucket, right?
