I feel oddly responsible for what happened last night.

About 7 p.m. I was on the phone and said to the person on the other end, that often I'd seen 7 runs accumulated in the first 4 or 5 innings wiped out by the other team in the last innings. How was I to know Tampa would prove me right?

Mind you, it did surprise me. Actually, the final results, stunned me.

@Region Philbis,
I feel bad, but I can't imagine how Ellsbury and Pedroia feel. I've been prepared for decades. All part of being in the Nation. It just seemed that after the first 2 weeks ...that for about 130 of the 162 games we're impervious to this sort of harm. Hey, Braves fans dealt with this same surprise, too. Connection also here is that they at one time they were a Boston team.

nope, not your fault...I blame it all on my husband. Everytime he wakes up to "check the score" things go terribly wrong. Next season...chamomile tea laced with ambien. Evil or Very Mad

It's a sad day......

Did you all hear about this? On Friday the Red Sox and the Atlanta Braves will have a one-game playoff for the All-time Choke Championship!

Go Red Sawx!

@Stormwatch,
As a lifelong Yankee fan, I will have to locate you and dispose of the chamomile tea and replace the Ambien with Wide-Awake energy pills. Twisted Evil

Ah, such a lovely day here in The Rotting Apple. Very Happy

Not even the most sadistic of the scriptwriters would have imagined an elimination such as last night with the Red Sox

I even dreamed I was in a game and some players ran the bases as terribly as Scutaro and Big Papi.
Luckily, in the dream I was part of the other team.

Feeling kinda bad that I stopped by early in the season to offer you Sox people some encouragement. This is harder when there's hope.

That's if to me and the sympathetic crap. I have the playoffs to worry about.

hmmmmm...

BOSTON (AP)—Terry Francona met with Boston Red Sox management on Friday to discuss his future as manager.

Shortly after the meeting, Francona, owner John Henry, and chairman Tom Werner left in separate cars. Francona left first, at 11:55 a.m. No announcement was made.

Several media reports Friday said Francona would not return for a ninth season. He led the Red Sox to World Series titles in 2004, their first since 1918, and 2007.

The team has 10 days from the end of its season to decide whether to retain the manager, whose contract has two option years at the club’s discretion. Boston missed the playoffs despite leading the AL wild-card race by nine games on Sept. 4. It went 6-18 after that, ending with a 4-3 loss Wednesday night to the Baltimore Orioles.

At a news conference Thursday, Francona said he and general manager Theo Epstein had approached the topic of the option, but declined to comment on his future.

“It’s still pretty fresh,” Francona said, “and pretty raw.”

@Rockhead,
I think Francona is a superb manager; perhaps as good as Joe Madden.
IMO Theo is the guy that shoulders the blame for the swan dive that was this season.

@panzade,

i think tito wants out.
theo prolly stays.

lot of talk today about how dysfunctional the sawx were in the clubhouse this year.
if true, they did an amazing job of keeping it under wraps all year...
