Both the Mozilla suite and Firebird web browser natively block popups.

If for some dimented reason you prefer to use Internet Explorer consider installing the http://StumbleUpon.com toolbar; it also gives you access to an amazing community with quality url stumbling. (available also to Mozilla, Firebird, Netscape, on windows, mac, linux, and BSD)

Alternately install one of these to FREE local proxy filters:

or

The former is best suited to power users. The latter is merely 300k under windows and has a flavor for every popular OS on the planet, but not as easily tweakable.

To "secure" email install a flavor of Disruptor: http://BestSpamSoftware.com

It uses ALL the greatest antispam technologies in one, easy to use interface. (easy regular expression builder for geeks)

OL for outlook
PI for outlook express or any POP3/IMAP client

both keep spiffy statistics with optional graphs of your spam

After installing one of the mozilla web browsers grab yourself some extensions:

firebird:

mozilla suite:

edit: it seems images are in vogue here

Ironically enough, I've found the new AOL mail to be quite good at blocking spam. 8.0 and up, that is. 9.0 gives some good features to it, too.

I have one spam email account, and one private 'main' account that I use. I also have a sprinkling of other accounts laying around, so if I'm worried about spam I use those.

As for Pop Up blockers, I've been using the Google Toolbar, and it works pretty good. Some flash popups get through, but it's few and far inbetween.

If you're hardcore antispam you should get a free http://SpamGourmet.com account. Read their FAQ for directions. Wink

I, too, have multiple email accounts. It only takes a few minutes to track down the spammer. If everybody had a ZERO tolerance and retribution strategy there would be no serious spam problem!
