@djjd62,
Copyright tends to kind of divide the world in two.

Canada would be interesting.

Do you guys get the British stuff way faster than the USians do?

Apparently some psychologists who, because of the turndown of the economy, didn't have enough patients to fill their appointments this month, got together and figured it out.

1) for the Northern Hemisphere, it's the depth of winter.
2) it's the first Monday after the day you are most likely to have received your credit card bills from the holidays.
3) The next holiday on the horizon is Valentine's Day -- a day filled with modern angst.
Therefore,------- most depressing day.

I went to mark it on my calendar and I looked and said "Crikey, they give us Australia Day right after. Must be to cheer us up!!"

So far I am still in the thick of funkness.

@Joe Nation,
That would be easily remedied. The wine growing region of Ontario is the Niagara peninsula. Just drive up there and get you some. (If you take the northernmost crossing--Lewistown to Queenston--you'll drive right through Ontario wine country.)

Too true, but down here in Gotham City, you can go to even the smallest wine store and find French, Australian, German, blah blah, even Peruvian, for godsakes, wines, but nothing from Ontario or elsewhere from the frozen climes.

Not much, in my opinion, but then, i'm not a wine drinker. There is a guy on CBC, Konrad Ejbich, who does a wine show on the last Friday of the month. He seems to be knowledgeable, and speaks highly of many Ontario wines.

However, it has been revealed recently that many so-called "Canadian" wines might have as much as 70% foreign grapes--mostly from Chile, although i think some came from Australia and New Zealand. So you might in fact be getting something which is not much different than many of the import wines you can get locally.

You might enjoy the program, which is broadcast on "Ontario Today" from CBC Ottawa, hosted by Rita Celli . . .

At this CBC page, they list the "experts" who regularly appear on Ontario Today (clickity click).

I don't know if they have a podcast, but CBC One is broadcast on Sirius Satellite Radio--channel 137.

woo hoo, looks like it was just a technical glitch, every once in a while the podcasts aren't available for international copyright, but this time it was something else

@Setanta,
I've had Canadian Ice Wines.
Very nice dessert wines, but rather pricey.

@George,
Of the "pure" Canadian wines (i.e., made entirely from Canadian grapes), i believe the ice wines are those for which they are most famous. Not being a wino (like some other members i could name), i know nothing of the prices.
