So I like looking at interesting websites. Mostly ones that I can go back to over and over again (much like this site). Only problem is that I am about the only person left in the word that is still stuck on dial up. Any good suggestions?

I like PostSecret
http://postsecret.blogspot.com/

I remember it worked even when I had dial-up. No moving graphics.

@Seed,
Just marking for email updates. I'll be interested to see if some yet to be discovered good new sites present themselves here.

My sympathy about being stuck with dial up, Seed. I was, too, for years ... I can fully appreciate how much it limits your experience of the internet.

@Seed,
I remember dial up hell. The suggestion is that when you get some money, go for either cable or digital. Never mind whatever else it is that you think you need, you need internet speed (or whatever they call it). Your life will improve.

@ossobuco,
Sadly if money was an issue that would be an easy fix. It's just where I live. It's not the boonies. The street down from me has cable. It's just that the distance between the junction box or what ever it is and my house is to far. Sucks for me.

@Seed,
Seed, have you ever heard of this web forum called a2k? It's a great community with a lot of great people! Very Happy

My other main haunt other then a2k is http://imdb.com and the boards there as well, http://www.imdb.com/boards/

In terms of internet speed? It's pretty Dial Up friendly.

Hmm, I bet introducing RSS to your use pattern would work well for you on dial up (because the stripped down RSS content would load faster). You should sign up for a Google Reader account and start subscribing to RSS feeds around the web. That way you can bring all sorts of sites into one interface. It's like email for web content updates.

But here are some site suggestions:

http://www.reddit.com/
http://news.google.com/

@Robert Gentel,
Not so sound stupid, but that's inevitable, but how does the reader work? Do I just put a website in, any website?

I lived with dial-up on the mainland because I didn't know any better. Never watched TV so didn't need cable in my apartment (although the outlet was there, just needed hooking up). Since moving to Hawaii I've been on cable. And, wow, wot a difference that makes! Just got a new modem yesterday. The old one had given out on me and I couldn't get on line for several days. Agony.

@Seed,
You need websites with RSS feeds, but those aren't hard to find (any blog or news site will have it, we have a bunch too), and then what it does is put all the different content updates into one interface for you and makes it easier to follow a large amount of content.

Depending on what browser you use, you may see an RSS icon in the address bar when the site has an RSS feed. Then, again depending on your browser setup, you can click on it to add the feed to your RSS reader.

I wrote more about it here: RSS Tutorial: how to read many sites in one place.

@Seed,
Almost any site I visit has them, but I like aggregators like the social networks I talked about here.
