With Halloween around the corner, I was reflecting on growing up a high school goth, and what songs were incredibly romantic to me at the time. Feel free to add to the poll, and have a fun October 31!
Gorsh, Cav. I had a similar thread called "Shiver Me Timbers"...but Gothic Romance tends toward the novel for me.
I do know that DOA had a song that wasn't too romantic, but it was a Halloween moon of madness. I found it very difficult to post because of it's connotation of highway horror.

So you're a 'Castle of Otranto' sorta gal then, or more 'Wuthering Heights'?

Used to be, Cav. Read every Gothic novel written, I suppose, classic and otherwise. Must admit, however, that I never heard of "Castle of Otranto".
Rebecca ranks right up there with Wuthering Heights, but I don't want to divert your music thread, so.......................
Laying here looking at the ceiling
Someone lays a sheet across my chest
Something warm is flowing down my fingers
Pain is flowing all through my back
I try to move my arm but there's no feeling
And when I look I see there's nothing there
The face beside me stopped totally bleeding
The girl I knew has such a distant stare
I remember
We were flying along
And hit something in the air
Life is flowing out my body
Pain is flowing out with my blood
The sheets are red and moist where I am lying
God in heaven teach me how to die
I remember
We were flying along
And hit something in the air.
Too grim even for Halloween

The Castle of Otranto is considered THE original Gothic novel, the first, the genesis of all Gothic conventions to come later. Here it is, just for you, Letty, an early birthday gift:
Well, pd, Killing Moon is more romantic lyrically, and equally death-affirming, but nobody from that band hung themselves....hmm....you may be on to something, but my leanings still aren't quite towards Joy Division.

Thanks, for the link, Cav. That novel does sound a wee bit familiar, reading the beginnings took ten years off my life. I think I'd prefer ten years off my birthday. With a sweep of my besom, I did just that.
Now, you and patio please continue.

I was torn between Bauhaus and Generation X for a best of love song for those listed. I decided against Bauhaus only cuz I have a soft place in my college memories for them so, didnt want to cloud my voting.

Bauhaus was a fave for me too quinn, and in retrospect, I probably should have put 'She's in Parties' on the poll, but hey, no biggie.

Peter Murphy: It Cuts You Up.
Sisters of Mercy: Flood I
Morrissey: How Soon is Now (although I like Love Spit Love's version much better!)
(no one said it had to be happy or successful, or even healthy love!)
