hi everyone,
i have an interview next week for a job. i meet most of the job requirements and profile. however they would require me to know how to prepare a budget for a (multi million dollar) research project, make forecasts and analysis etc. So do anyone of you know any online source from where i could learn the basics of such things - also which particular type of budget to you think they would require candidates to be able to prepare?
finally which are the in vogue budget softwares that are used by companies. they may appreciate if i know how to use a couple of softwares.
thank you very much.
Please can anyone help me with this - might help me land that elusive job in this downturn market
@brahmin,
I'm taking a guess off the top of my head but you probably need to use a spreadsheet program like excel.

thanks very much both of you.
Need more info - this job is in an academic institute. they have recently got a multimillion dollar high tech project from a top technology agency. they need a manager for this project - need to produce reports about their expenditure so far, make forecasts about future monetary requirements, etc. also liaise and communicate between the college and the agency etc. have to give the funding agency reports about the progress so far and the financial health/state of the project once every month/quarter (i dont know how often).
to that end they would expect me to know about the basic types of budgets (partial budget, zero based budget, incremental budget etc). I do not know which of these they would use for the project. As an added plus, they might require me to know how to use a budget/forecast software. again i dont know which one they would use for this, if at all they use any.
these are the budget types i found on the net - which one may be suitable for a project like this?
1. The Budget Guidelines
2. Sales / Revenue Budget
3. Operating Expenses Budget
4. Profit Budget
5. Cash Flow Budget
6. Financial Position Budget
once again tyvm.
thank you once more.
i need to know what budgeting is, what it entails etc. knowing a s/w is not mandatory though would be a plus.

Before you begin to create your budget it is important to realize that in order to be successful you have to provide as much detailed information as possible. Ultimately, the end result will be able to show where your money is coming from, how much is there and where it is all going.
