ok - i was talking(while using the comp) to my friend once, and we so happened to go to a thread in a forum which i had posted in.

and she said - oh look at pyko's post (i didn't tell her who i was on the forum Razz) ... and she pronounced it in a way i never thought of (eg. different to what i intended it to be)

ok...now out of interest - how would you pronounce it?

I voted "pie-ko".

I can relate. I recently went to an A2K gathering and was all tongue-tied over my own name. I started out thinking it was "SOZO bee", then it kind of became more "soze O bee". And I just never say it aloud, even in my head. (Only thing it's definitely not is "sahz obe", sounds like something found on a petri dish.)

Me too! It's just in the way we are taught to piece letters together in English.

btw, I always figgered "sozobe" would be pronounced "soza-bee". *shrug*

I vote for PIE-ko and so-ZO-bee. And it's that way in my head, and no matter what anybody says, it will always be that way. So there! Razz

Agree with nimh about the pronounciation of "soz".

'Pie-ko' would sound best with a German "ΓΌ" - but I admit: that's avery archaic pronounciation of Latin "y" (age-appropriate Laughing )

I went for pie-ko. Now, how would one pronounce cavfancier? Truth is, it's ca-vfan-ci-er. It's Welsh.

Can I claim the Dutch pronunciation? I LIKE!

I pronounce Gautam as "GOW-tem", but I'm pretty sure that's not right. Confused

nimh is "nim." (I think from reading "Mrs. Frisbee and the Rats of NIMH.")

cjhsa is siegehussay. Razz

fbaezer is fuhbaezer, blatham is, well, blatham not b latham (though I know he's b latham, but blatham has a nice blathery cast to it.)

I'm thinking pyko is pee-ko, as pie-ko seems to be the obvious one (i.e. what the friend said that was not it.)
