I have always liked Smokey Robinson and since I am now playing a lot of music in the house, I wanted some of his stuff. So I picked up his new "Time Flies When Your're Having Fun" album.
OMG - it's awful. I feel like writing him and asking for my money back. There's one song, a collaboration with Carlos Santana and another with India Arie that are half decent, but all in all, it's awful. Basic, primitive, stupid repeating lyrics, poor music, - really shallow.
On the other hand, I am playing Darius Rucker - Learn to Live over and over and the Rod Stewart Soulbook is decent enough.
In case you have any 60's era grandmas you need to buy for.
@sullyfish6,
To tell you the truth... I didn't realize he was still alive.
Apparently he's not - and this album proves it.
I saw him just last weekend on "The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" (or some such show) where he sang "Tracks of My Tears" and sounded terrific!!
don't dis Smokey!
@eoe,
I loved "Cruisin'", and still do. Still, that was a long time ago. I haven't heard any of his recent work.
Sadly, I only have Smokey on LP and the turntable is all kaputie.
@roger,
where I live, turntables are galore at the DAV and thrift stores...
I like Smokey.
@Rockhead,
I might check that out. I have one song on one LP which never made it to CD.
