In this experiment, I am to determine the amount of CaO in limeston. BUT I don't understnad why I am doing this procedures.

1. preparation of 0.02M potassium permanganate (to use as titrant)
2.standardization of potassium permanganate solutions (WHY?)
3. titrate sodium oxoalate with KMnO4 permanganate (WHY?)

determination of calcium in a limestone

4. sample preparation
5. precipitation of calcium oxalate (WHY?)
6. titrate calcium oxalate with KMnO4 permanganate (WHY?)
