@chezymeeez,
I'm a melancholic individual. So when I listen to music of a variety of genres: classical, alternative rock, some country, standard jazz, film scores, whatever, they tend to be on the minor key and depressing sort. But I'm not averse to the intelligently witty pop song, though I stay away from the current top 40 tripe.
Here is a random list of favorite musicians, songwriters, composers, whatnots where I listed on my NPR public profile:
Music: Aimee Mann, Astor Piazzolla, Ben Folds, Bruce Hornsby, Claude Debussy, Death Cab for Cutie, Dmitry Shostakovich, Elvis Costello, Genesis, Itzhak Perlman, Kronos Quartet, Lyle Lovett, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Miles Davis, Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Philip Glass, Punch Brothers, Queen, Radiohead, Rickie Lee Jones, The New Pornographers, Wynton Marsalis, Yo-Yo Ma, The Cars, Yoko Kanno, Fleetwood Mac, Mark O'Connor, Mylene Farmer, Ric Ocasek, Zazie.
