Poet, friend of Emily Dickenson, Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of many books of fiction and non fiction, including "Ramona," Helen Hunt Jackson was a woman of courage and vision. I offer a biography and samples of her writing for those not familiar with this poet and champion of Indian rights.

Very cool EB thanks for the heads up. I need to change my quote soon and I shall pick from one of these.
Her poem, September, was one we had to memorize in my class in grade school. I have been fond of her ever since, but it was not until recently I came to understand her other accomplishments.
I've located the online text of RAMONA.
