Poet, friend of Emily Dickenson, Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of many books of fiction and non fiction, including "Ramona," Helen Hunt Jackson was a woman of courage and vision. I offer a biography and samples of her writing for those not familiar with this poet and champion of Indian rights.

Her poem, September, was one we had to memorize in my class in grade school. I have been fond of her ever since, but it was not until recently I came to understand her other accomplishments.
