apparently a few people are donating their homes to the local fire department to be set afire and used for training firefighters. They take a charitable deduction from the IRS, possibly unload a overvalued mortgage and keep title of the land.

I wonder how many they will have to burn before they feel adequately trained?

@dyslexia,
That happened to me. Seaglass sold our old home in NH to avery nice couple. Couple of years later, we're driving through the old neighborhood and decided to take the side road to have a nostalgic look at the old property. House was gone, a new one built in a different location, on higher ground. Stopped and talked to the new owners. They told us, instead of tearing the old house down they had the fire department set it ablaze as a training exercise. Apparently, a couple of volunteer firemen got hurt during the exercise. Look at the sky
Turn a hell-fire red, Lord
Somebody's house is burnin'
Down, down, down, down . . .

@djjd62,
djjd, that picture made me laugh Very Happy

It really inspires faith in the fire department when they chose to line up for a picture in front of a burning house instead of putting it out.

@dyslexia,
This is an especially good ploy if they can slip in an insurance claim. Supporting documents from a grateful fire department might help - or not.

Amazing. A win-win for everyone concerned!
Pretty crazy with all the homeless folk around, though ....
