I am another who misses the CD store. A couple of Christmases ago, I wanted to buy the Tony Bennet Duet CD for a friend whose taste in music is eclectic and who I know loves "the American songbook." I went into Harvard Square, where not to long ago, there were several music stores. They were absent . . .gone . . . disappeared . . .I was crushed.

@plainoldme,
Are you near either Barnes and Noble or Borders? Both are good sources for CD's and they have vast inventory resources if that particular store doesn't have a particular CD or set of CD's.

@tsarstepan,
I've had a whack of good cd finds at Value Village and Goodwill lately. $1.99/$2.99 per.

Mel Torme - Great American Songbook - Live at Michael's Pub
Dixie Chicks - Home
Respighi - Ancient Airs and Dances
Christy Moore - Christy Moore

The Neville Brothers/Judy Collins/The Be Good Tanyas/Dvorak/Beethoven/audio cd of Sue Grafton - S is for Silence/ Aretha Franklin/Collin James

Justin Hines
Daniel Lanois - Acadie
Loreena McKennitt - The Visit

Michael Kaeshammer/Tito Puento/Swingers soundtrack/Jane Bunnett/The Jackson 5/Madonna/Gilbert and Sullivan/a few Weird Al Yankovic cd's

Stuart McLean's History of Canada

nearly a dozen Putumayo collections

a couple of dozen Middle Eastern music c.d's (which are in the $30 - 40 range in the local music stores)

a stack of Myst and Myst-type games

I'm still saving everything (other than the books and games) to hard-drive, and got a couple of new flash drives to pop them into. Trying to decide whether to sell them (as BMV pays more than I paid for these) or donate them back. This is a great time to be buying 2nd-hand cd's as everyone with non-standard tastes seems to be switching to mp3.
