I have two machines connected to the same router. One machine is fine but on the other one neither Firefox or Explorer can find Google.co.uk or Google.com but I can access any other website including other Google sites (GoogleEarth, GoogleMaps, etc.). When I tracert I get "Unable to resolve target system name www.google.co.uk" and when I ping I get "Ping request could not find host www.google.co.uk". My hosts file was empty apart from "127.0.0.1 local host" so I put in "209.85.148.104 www.google.co.uk" and both browsers can now access Google. I have ZoneAlarm and Avast installed but cannot find any reference to Google that might suggest blocking. Why can't my machine find Google.co.uk without the entry in hosts?
