Is there a way to change one's own tags, the ones that show up to everyone? If not, I think it would be a good thing if we could.

@JTT,
if you have tagged a thread, you should see a box under the tags called something like "your tags". each of your tags should have a red x next to it. you can delete the tag, put in something new. I'm not sure if you can edit them, but it's easy enough to delete and replace.

are people changing other posters tags?...some of the tags I see are just plain embarrassing

you can't change other posters' tags, but you can add more tags and perhaps push the nasty ones out of the way.

there's some formula as to which tags show.

I know that there is a limit of 5 tags showing at the top of a thread, so the 5 most relevant/used/something tags get stuck in there.
