these are the words I remember... any help appreciated

Patience awhile
My little child
please don't you you cry

for up in a tree
A robin you'll see
Picking cherries one by one

Robins have no cherry pie
Quick they eat
And off they fly

Patience awhile
my little child
Please don't you cry.

@JABB,
Is this what you are looking for?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CHERRIES ARE RIPE
CHERRIES are ripe ! cherries are ripe !
0, give the baby one ;
Cherries are ripe ! cherries are ripe !
And baby must have none.
Cherries are too sour to use ;
Babies are too young to choose ;
By-and-by, made in a pie,
No one will then refuse.
Up in a tree a robin I see,
Eating one by one ;
Striking his bill, getting his fill,
As down his throat they run.
Robins want no cherry pie ;
Quick they eat, and off they fly ;
My little child, patient and mild,
Surely will not cry
@Intrepid,
My mother sang it like this:
Cherries are ripe, cherries are ripe, give little baby some
Cherries are too sour for you, babies are too young to chew
By and by we'll bake you a pie
And give little baby some
Does anyone know the origin of this song?
@afw,
No, sorry, but I do regularly drive up and down the hill made famous by Jack and Jill.
This is what Wikipedia says.
@izzythepush,
And where might that hill be?
The Wiki article is a different song altogether,
but thanks for trying!
@afw,
The hill is in the village of Kilmersdon in Somerset.
Between you and me it's a very ordinary hill.
The only way you'd know is the village signs have "Home of Jack and Jill" written underneath.
@izzythepush,
Oh wow, I thought you were kidding about the hill! Just looked it up - the area around Kilmersdon is lovely. I was surprised to learn Jack and Jill were actual people!
Where did you find lyrics to "Cherries Are Ripe"?
@afw,
Wikipedia.
The hill is very dull.
Somerset has much better things to look at.
Cheddar Gorge and caves are very popular.
@izzythepush,
The Soay sheep of Cheddar Gorge are handsome looking to me.
Sorry to keep asking, but where did you find lyrics to "Cherries Are Ripe"?
@afw,
Two other posters, the OP and intrepid, posted right at the beginning of this thread, but I do not know where they got their lyrics from.
@JABB,
This was the best audio I found:
https://soundcloud.com/margaretmacarthur/cherries-are-ripe?utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing
My mother's grandmother sang this to her, too. I feel like I found the words (sheet music) on the Library of Congress site before, but now in searching, I only see an unrelated image. I was, however, able to find an old book with it on Project Gutenberg:
