Top Five Guitarists of All-Time, my list:
1.)Dimebag Darrell
2.)Yngie Malmsteen
3.)Zakk Wylde
4.)Kirk Hammett
5.)Slash
that is my off hand list, I'm sure if i thought about it, it would change some.
No Hendrix? No Townshend? No Clapton? No Page?
You could make an arguement for any of those guys, but I will try to make an arguement against them.
1.)Hendrix...2 words OVER RATED!!! he is a very good and VERY VERY innovative guitarists, but you can go to almost any 16 year old kid and ask them to play a Hendrix song, they can.
2.)Townshend....He just doesn't stand out....The first think I think about when i think of him, is his perverse run in with the law.
3.)Clapton could easily be on the list.
4.)Same with Page.
I saw a guy who was a guest star on an episode of the Odd Couple. Don't know his name but he was incredible. I'd love to find out who he was.
BTW, Tommy Emanuel makes Clapton sound like an amateur. But being an Aussie, most people have never heard of him.
Not sure, but i think you could be a little BIAS!
But I don't blame you.
My favorite Olympic Basketball team is The USA team.
I should also mention that Clapton is one of his biggest fans.
I am one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle's biggest fans. What does that mean?
Jesus Christ, just because it doesn't happen in America, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. There is a world outside your borders you know.
Like millions of yanks, obviously you don't know.
I suppose next you will be pushing that "soccer is the greatest sport" stuff. Well, you want a sport watch Football, AMERICAN football. But in all fairness, David Beckam is a handsome man.
Oh yeah, I did like Paul Hogan. Did like.
Australia was started as a colony for British convicts. Not like America.
Some of the southern colonies, including Georgia, were just that -- holding pens for British convicts.
And what about Joe Satriani?
Georgia held people in debt. Not British convicts.
Stevie Ray
Van Halen
BB King
Slow Hand
Page
Child....too harsh on Hendrix there. You most likely have not heard his complete performance at Woodstock, complete with awesome solos involving high volume, blues, jazz, feedback and flamenco.
I've heard it, and it was very impressive. My favorite part is when he makes it sound like bombs are actually falling. That was beyond cool.
I couldn't really say who the best guitarists ever are but I can certainly name my favourite (and this is in no specific order):
Allan Holdsworth
Fredrik Thordendal (mostly due to his solo album)
Chuck Schuldiner
Mikael Ã…kerfeldt
David Gilmour
Honorable mentions: Jason Gobel, Paul Masvidal, Steven Wilson, Michael Angelo Batio, Mark Knopfler, John McLaughlin...
"Sultans of Swing" has one of the greatest solos ever.
