Hi, my little cousin (age 6) asked me to get him a CD by Green Day (American Idiot), however this CD does not have an "edited" version.... are their any mainstream bands that are similar to Green Day but with out the curse words that a 6 year old may be interested in? I picked up a few Aerosmith and Rolling Stone CDs for him already.
Thanks!!
@bunnibug523,
Rolling Stones? "Let's spend the night together"? "Brown Sugar"? "Shattered"? "Honky Tonk Woman"?
@NickFun,
I know, I know... my aunt suggested that one... I think there are no curse words. I know that Green Day uses the f word and that is the problem.
My son Mo is seven and Green Day is his favorite band. He loves the song American Idiot. I explained to him that it has some words in it that I don't like him to use and explained what the songwriter meant by using the words.
I'm not saying that the music is right for every kid though. He's my son and not my cousin so really don't buy it for him without talking to his mom first. Also, Mo has a long time interest in music and has taken lessons for several years so taking a more "technical" explaination worked okay for him. We substituted "mindsuck" and "maggot" for the objectionable words when he sings them.
Have you checked to see if WalMart sells it? As I understand it they will only sell cleaned up records with objectionable words removed. Is the artist wants to sell their music through the world's largest retailer they have to release a "clean" version.
