@dyslexia,
Reminds me slightly of when I was "caught" bringing wild boar sausage into the US... wild boar sausage that I bought at the airport in Rome, at the shop right next to the boarding gate. I was surprised and irritated, since it wasn't inexpensive. But of course, other countries besides the US probably don't say "No, signora" to italian sausage.
Of course, mine was senza the diapers.

@Bella Dea,
Actually the FDA is trying to ban unpasteurized cheese too. That would include parmesan reggianno, most brie's, and roquefort, to name just a few.

@ossobuco,
one thing we have learned living close to the canada/U.S. border is :
YES , you can bring liquor across the border , but
NO , you cannot bring meat or plant products across the border - either way !

if you try to take an orange into the U.S. you'll likely not only lose your orange but will get a hefty fine !

@ossobuco,
I remember the orange thing. Strange to me as a child, from arizona to california.

Actually, I do care about fruit pests now, not that border checks will do any good.
